The Oblast centre is Odesa. Administrative-territorial division: 26 raions. The Oblast is located in the South-West of Ukraine, within the limits of forest-steppe and steppe areas. In the South is washed by the Black Sea. The greater part of the territory is occupied by the Black Sea lowland. The main rivers are the Danube, the Dnister, the Pivdennyi Buh. There are the Dnisterskyi, the Khadzhybeiskyi, the Kuial'nytskyi, and the Tylihul'skyi estuaries. There is a preserve of «Danube Plavni» in the Oblast. The climate is moderately continental, with a mild, little snow winter and a hot dry summer. The Oblast was established in1932. Territory: 33,3 thousand sq. km.
