Extreme south of Ukraine. Within the limits of the Prichernomorsky lowland. The North part is at the branches of Pridniprovsky sublimity. The climate is moderately continental, partly marine. A part of the Oblast is washed by the Black sea. Largest rivers: the Pivdenny Buh, the Ingul, the Ingulets' with the Vysun. In the south the estuaries of Pivdenny Buh and the Dnipro join. The Oblast was formed in 1937. Territory: 24,6 thousand sq. km.
