An oblast center is Kharkov.
Administrative-territorial division: 27 raions.
The greater part of oblast occupies the Prydniprovska lowland. The branches of the Serednerosiiska highland are in the north and north-east; the branches of the Donetsk ridge are on the southeast. The climate is moderately continental. The main river is the Siverskyi Donets’. It was formed in 1932. Territory: 31,4 thousands sq. km
